Natimuk is a small Wimmera town, with a population of around 500 people, located 25km west of Horsham and 324km north-west of Melbourne. It is prosperous sheep and grain country with the Wimmera River meandering near by.
Natimuk’s name derives from an Aboriginal word thought to mean ‘little lake’ – clearly a reference to Lake Natimuk, located 3km north of the town. This provides an ideal spot for water sports – waterskiing, sailing, windsurfing and fishing.
One of the major tourist attractions is Mt. Arapiles. It is referred to as the ‘Ayers Rock of the Wimmera’. It is considered by abseiling enthusiasts to be the country’s premier abseiling venue because it has a sandface rock face which rises 356 metres.
