Murtoa is a small rural community situated around picturesque Lake Marma in the Wimmera region of Western Victoria. Lake Marma, a small lagoon which covers 20 ha surrounded by a walking track is noted for it's bird life and beautiful sunsets. Murtoa is the largest inland grain receival point in Victoria, the huge grain complex identifies that it is very much a wheat town in a wheat district.
Murtoa although a small town offers a variety of services such as a resident general practitioner, State College and Catholic Primary school, Apex and Loins club, IGA supermarket, post office/newsagent, chemist agency/gift shop, 2 garages and 2 petrol outlets, 2 corner shops, a hairdresser and antique business. Most things can be purchased in the town but with Horsham a main service centre only 30km away getting what you need is never a problem. Recreational activities include enjoying Lake Marma, football, netball, squash and basketball. On the first weekend of October there is always the "Murtoa Big Weekend" hosting the Agricultural Show, Grain Growers Art Exhibition, "Poets by the Pier", Monster Market, Youth Dance, Murtoa Race Meeting and lots more entertaining events for the whole family.
Murtoa has a Mediterranean climate of warm to hot dry summers and cool to mild winters.
