Stawell Health & Community Centre Solar Project

In June 2009, with approval from the Department of Human Services, GCH lodged an application to install Solar Power Systems to Community Buildings with the Australian Government Greenhouse office .  In November 2009 we received approval to proceed with a grant of $15,609 to go towards the supply and installation of a 2Kw Solar Power System.  On 30 July 2010 installation of the system was completed.   As part of GCH’s commitment to its peak policy on environmental sustainability, and as a requirement of the grant provided by the Australian Greenhouse Office, this project provides a great opportunity to demonstrate the benefits of solar power to the community.

Stawell Health & Community Centre Official Opening

On Friday 16th July, Premier John Brumby officially opened the Stawell Health and Community Centre. David Phipps, Chairman of Grampians Community Health welcomed the community to the new facility and thanked the project partners, architects, builders and contractors who made the project possible.

“The journey for this building began in 2001 when we undertook a series of community consultations from which was developed a Rural Health Plan and a Community Services Plan. It’s gratifying to know that a number people from the very first meeting are here today.  From these plans there was a clearly identified need for a facility that would bring together community health and social services and to provide a range of suitable spaces for general community activities.  In the ensuing years we undertook all the planning and design activities resulting in a funding proposal which was submitted to the then Parliamentary Secretary of Health Daniel Andrews.  The Stawell Health and Community Centre is the culmination of the inspiration and work of many individuals and groups within our community.  Without them we would not be standing here today.”
