But if you think its all sedate country living you’re wrong. This is a sport loving community offering a full range of activities. Victoria is currently experiencing a drought but when at its peak Lake Wallace is able to offer a variety of aquatic sports.
The main regional centre, Horsham, is just 93 kilometres away and Melbourne only about four hours by road. Just an hour away by road, are the vineyards of the famous wine-growing Coonawarra district of south eastern South Australia. Centred around the historic town of Penola, this is the home of the rich terra rossa soil and some of Australia’s best wines.
Education is a high priority in Edenhope. The State Education Department as part of its "Schools of the Future" chose Edenhope College programs as one of its outstanding examples. The school caters for children from prep to Year 12 and operates as a cluster school with nearby community schools, which allows it to provide a broad quality program while maintaining excellent student-teacher ratios. There is also a Catholic primary school in the town and for those wanting a private school education for their children there are schools in Naracoorte, Horsham, Hamilton, Mt Gambier, Warrnambool and Ballarat. These centres are also the locations for tertiary education facilities. Edenhope is well served in the area of banking with two of Australia’s major banks; the Commonwealth and the National located in the town to provide services to residents.
Edenhope is home to a full range of sporting facilities and clubs covering tennis, bowls, football, squash, basketball, netball and golf. The town has an excellent racecourse and sports stadium. Lake Wallace provides a natural setting for water sports including skiing, boating and fishing. As well as Lake Wallace the districts many small lakes and swamps are known throughout the country as a fresh water fisherman’s dream come true. Game shooting is also popular in season. For the ecologically minded, the nearby Little Desert National Park provides an undisturbed view of the ecosystems and natural beauty of this unique part of the Australian continent.
The spiritual needs of the people of Edenhope are met by four mainstream Christian Churches: Catholic, Anglican, Uniting and Lutheran.
Bus and V/Line (State Transport Corporation) provides rail transport, both within the local area and interstate, through its own services and those of private companies.
