Chronic Illness
A relatively small budget, similar to one Linkages "place", provides assistance to carers of people with chronic illness and complex support needs who are at least six years of age.
The chronic illnesses specified as eligible are:
- Arthritis
- Diabetes
- Motor Neurone
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Muscular Dystrophy
- Cystic Fibrosis
- Epilepsy
- Parkinson's Disease
- Thalassaemia
Where funds are not required for these listed illnesses, funding can then be made available to people with complex needs from other chronic illnesses such as allergies, cancer, HIV / AIDS and haemophilia.
A carer is defined as a person who provides ongoing personal care and support on an unpaid basis (other than Centrelink payments) and who lives in the same house or adjacent to the person. Carers who receive a Carer Allowance or Child Disability Allowance are automatically considered to be eligible, but assistance is limited and funds may not always be available due to demand.
Funds are available for case management, additional equipment, therapy, training, new activities, respite etc. dependent on individual needs.
