- Maintain the quality of life for the carer, other family members and the person being cared for
- Enable the carer to continue to continue in their caring role
- Assist in linking carers with local support groups and support services
- To contribute to a better understanding of the importance of the carer and the significance of the caring role
Who is eligible?
Families or voluntary carers who are caring for:
- People with dementia or frail elderly people over 65 years
- Children over 6 years and adults who have an intellectual, physical or sensory disability or and acquired brain injury

Who is a Carer?
A carer is a family member, close friend or neighbour who is providing care for someone living in the community.
What is Respite?
Respite is defined as an alternative arrangement that enables “time out” or a break from the caring role.
A Carer Support Worker assists carers by providing personal support, advocacy, information and planning for appropriate respite. The respite is tailored to the needs of the carer and care recipient. Some of the options include in-home respite, recreational respite or in a residential facility. The Carer Support Worker is also able to purchase additional respite services on behalf of carers.
This is a flexible service that works with carers and service providers to ensure the most appropriate result is achieved for the carer and the care recipient.
Other activities tailored to the carer / care recipient needs can also be arranged. For example short holidays, Healthy Lifestyle Holidays, bus trips, weekends away.
Brokerage funds are available to purchase services, equipment or residential respite, depending on each persons needs and amount of funds available.
Service Costs
Where a contribution applies this will be discussed individually between the carer support worker and the carer.
