Mental illness often causes individuals to withdraw from family, friends and society. Due to the isolation resulting from withdrawing, the individual often has difficulty re-establishing themselves within their community.
During the course of their illness many social skills are lost, confidence and self-esteem are diminished and isolation is further compounded.
